Thermolysis Technology
THE TECHNOLOGY&POTENTIAL
Our cutting-edge thermolysis technology enables carbon capture through combined thermal recycling of bio-wastes, resulting in a cost-effective production of PyroBioCarbon, along with other valuable renewable by-products for the process industry such as hydrogen, syngas, bio-based oils and more.
A fossil replacement:
What is PyroBioCarbon?
Fossil-based materials dominate today’s industrial value chains — driving unsustainable supply chains, exposing producers to geopolitical risks, and demanding high energy input.
Meanwhile, valuable bio-waste resources remain underutilized, and industries face increasing pressure to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and integrate effective carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) solutions.
Our Solution
HTTech’s patented thermolysis technology transforms organic waste into PyroBioCarbon™ — a sustainable, high-performance alternative to fossil-based carbon. This process also yields valuable renewable by-products such as syngas and bio-based oil, supporting circular production across industries.
Why it Matters
Globally, over 100 million tons of carbon are consumed annually in metal production — 500,000 tons per year in Norway alone. As heavy industries strive for climate-neutral operations, they are left with two sub-optimal options:
Continue using fossil-based materials
Harmful to the climate and increasingly regulated.
Switch to renewable sources
Costly and not fully compatible with current industrial process standards (e.g., reactivity, ash content, PAHs).
At the same time, Norwegian forest growth is accelerating. Planned deforestation will result in large volumes of waste biomass, such as GROT (branches and treetops), which currently holds negative market value.
HTTech offers an emission-free, energy-autonomous process to valorize this waste and produce clean carbon and hydrogen for use in metallurgy, battery production, and beyond.
1 kilo of fossil reducing agents directly leads to 3,67 kg of C02 emissions from extraction. The Norwegian process industry consumes from 300,000 to 500,000 tons of fossil reducing agents, accounting for 1,835,000,000 kg of C02 equivalents. The companies with whom we currently have a memoranda of understanding have a combined consumption of over 1 million tons of carbon annually. In coal mining, there is usually a significant amount of methane left behind, which is released into the atmosphere. According to the UN report, methane emissions are 100 times more harmful to the environment than C02. The same applies to bituminous coal. Heavy metals are lifted during extraction, damaging drinking water and the ecosystem on a large scale. All of these negative effects can be avoided by using PyroBioCarbon as a reducing agent.
PyroBioCarbon is a 100% renewable reducing agent and, moreover,
offers better properties than fossil alternatives.
In the production of PyroBioCarbon, no virgin resources are affected. all input factors are meterails that most consider commercially worthless and environmentally detrimental. For illustration, up to 3,7 million m3 of branches and tops (GROT) are generated in Norway per year, mainly in the forestry industry, which can be freely converted into PyroBioCarbon.
